20+ Rockford region citizens showed up on February 1st at the RVC downtown location for the second "Hour of Code" workshop for the spring 2017 semester. What is the "Hour of Code" The "Hour of Code" demystifies computer science and has been offered as a FREE monthly workshop at Rock Valley College by Professor Chuck Konkol since December 2015. For the Spring 2017 semester the "Hour of Code" takes places the first Wednesday of the month form 5-6pm at the RVC Downtown location. Since December 2015 360 people have taken the hour of code challenge. The ages of those in attendance ranged from 7 to 80 years old. They had a blast creating a flappy bird type game with Blockly, a drag-and-drop code platform! Blockly is a client-side JavaScript library for creating visual block programming editors. It is a project of Google and is open-source. Blockly runs in a web browser, and resembles Scratch. Snapp, another Blockly like platform is used in a college curriculum named "Beauty and Joy of Computing" and endorsed by the College Board as an official AP Computer Science course.
